WHY? -Wednesday

WHY? WEDNESDAY- Every Wed. I will ask a Why question to hopefully get a nice interaction with other bloggers. So for my first question-
Why should you go into great detail when writing a review?
I look forward to getting some interesting answers!!

  1. Hmmm, I wouldn't go into detail on the plot of a book, but I won't characterisation, pacing and the like -- is that what you meant?

  2. I love the concept of "WHY Wednesday" - what a great idea! I think that if your review is just "I liked it" or "I didn't like it" without explaining WHY, it's not really helpful for other readers to figure out if they might want to read the book or not. I don't know about everyone else, but that's why I read reviews - to see if I the book being reviewed is one I want to add to my ever-growing TBR pile or not. And if you didn't like a book because it had insta-love and a spoiled bratty main character, well, maybe I LOVE insta-love and spoiled bratty main characters, so I would actually love that! I try to include especially in any negative reviews precisely why the book wasn't for me, because I know my hang-ups and pet peeves aren't necessarily universal, so while I might DNF a book because I wanted to punt the main character out a window, lots of other people really loved it. (This happens to me a lot with YA Fantasy, actually... Maybe I'm just getting too old and crotchety!)

    1. I totally agree, being specific helps you decide whether you will actually want to read that book or not!! I am thrilled you took the time to answer, and I look forward to talking with you more!! I am so glad you liked the idea-as this is still a learning experience for me!! Have a great weekend, and thanks again for reading!!
